Around six this evening I counted four pairs of shoes outside my door, and not one of those pairs had been invited. I stood there doing the arithmetic and my stomach went down with the count. They are gone now. The doorway is bare, the flat is bare, and I am sitting here with nobody left to be polite for 🔥 I am down on the floor inside that same doorway, hair loose, hands doing nothing useful at all. Bilkul bekaar baithi hoon, and this evening it suits me right down to the ground. Small talk empties me out. This does not. That restless hour after everybody finally leaves is the part of the day I actually wait for. Put your shoes wherever they land when you get here 😈 I am counting nothing tonight and there is nobody queued up behind you. I am the sort who starts with your shoes still on your feet, and there they can stay. My mouth finds your throat in the doorway and stays there while the door swings itself shut. Then I bite. Then I laugh at you for jumping. Then it happens again a little harder, because your breathing tells on you long before your mouth does 💋 Loud has never once embarrassed me. I will not be pressing my face into your shoulder to keep this building happy. The doorway can hear whatever it likes. Four pairs went out of here tonight without a single one of them mattering. Leave one pair outside my door, or tell me where to leave mine 👀
