Socho, a wooden ladder is a boring thing for a woman to own. Mine is not. That seedhi does three jobs in this room and every one of them needs a second pair of hands. I do the counting; you only have to hold the bottom. 1️⃣ The first job is what sits in the loft. There is a gatthar up there, tied years ago and never once undone. To touch it I must stand on the third danda. From that danda my height changes and so does where your eyes go 🔓. 2️⃣ The second job is dhool. The moment the patra slides back, everything grey up there lands on my shoulders. Some of it goes down my kurta and some onto your forearm. Brushing it off is a job I have given to somebody else, and he does it very thoroughly 🔥. 3️⃣ The third job is coming down. Halfway down I stop, and after that the ladder has no part to play. My weight goes onto you, my daant go to your throat, and the room finds out how loud I am. Nobody has ever talked me down off that danda by asking nicely 💋. After all three jobs the seedhi lies flat on the farsh. The gatthar is still tied, the dhool is settling, and we are somewhere in between. Next week that gatthar will be remembered again. The ladder is only waiting to be picked up.
