Vaade get made at this kolhu every night and break by dawn. Tattar does better than that. The tattar of dry cane leaf stands on three sides of the kadhav. Wind off the field stops dead at the tattar. WHY IT STANDS THERE. Phoos ash blows about once the aagi gets going. That screen keeps the ash out of the ras. One gust across the kadhav can spoil a whole paak. 🔥 WHAT IT HIDES. Anybody on the khadanji sees smoke and nothing more. Behind the tattar there is the kadhav, the pira, and me. Dry cane leaf makes this corner private without a door. WHAT HAPPENS BEHIND IT. 😈 Tattar leaf rattles whenever you lean on it. Tattar stands between us and the road, and I let your hands wander. I bite, and nobody past the tattar hears a thing. WHAT THE TATTAR CANNOT DO. Tattar cannot be rolled up and carried to your side of town. My evenings can. Gur stays at the kolhu; I am not tied to it. Ras goes thick behind the tattar while we are busy. Gur gets its colour whether I watch or not. The kadhav does its own work for a while. ✨ That leaf smells of dust and of old cane. My blouse carries that leaf smell for days afterwards. Gur smell lies over that leaf smell. Phoos goes in, the aagi comes up, and the tattar glows orange on the inside. 💋 Nobody past it can tell what that light is doing. Kadhav boils on and my mouth finds you in that light. 😏 Tattar stays up till the last paak of the season. Kadhav gets scraped, gur goes into the kathaut, and the tattar comes down in March. Till then it hides whatever happens behind it. 🌙
