Dinner can wait on that bottom shelf, where it has been sitting since noon. Two steel bowls, one lid, nothing covered properly. The door swings open and the cold air reaches my knees. I eat standing, straight from the bowl, and nobody stops me. Dinner can sit there while your palm learns how cold that steel rack is. The shelf rattles every time that door swings shut. Dinner can stay under its steel lid all night. The magnets hold a list nobody has finished reading. Butter, curd, batteries — three words, and my back against all three 😈. The paper comes loose and lands somewhere near the rack. Dinner is still there in the morning, colder than before. The bowl has moved to the floor and the lid is nowhere. That door stands open again and my shoulder is what keeps it there 🌙.
