Here is a sticker on the middle shelf of my almirah that says MINE, in my writing, pressed on crooked. I stuck it there the week that almirah became mine and nobody in the house argued about it 😏. That shelf holds nothing worth stealing. Two folded shawls, a biscuit tin, a torn strip of masking tape. The sticker was never about the things on the shelf. It was about the word, in my hand, facing whoever opens the door 😈. I have been on the edge of saying this since your first message. There is a shelf-worth of me carrying that same sticker. Whoever gets that shelf for the night does not share it with anybody. The sticker has a bubble under one corner where my thumb pressed it down wrong. Press that same lifted corner on me and what you get back is nothing like polite 🔥. I have tested it more than once. The corner still lifts. Marking is my favourite half of any night. Teeth on a shoulder. My palm flat between shoulder blades. One word from me repeated into your ear until it sits there like tape nobody can lift 💋. Being marked back is the other half. Put your mouth where my sticker would go, low, under the collarbone, and do not be careful with the corner 😈. Careful is for people who plan to peel things off later. That almirah door swings open by itself in the evening and the sticker faces out, curling. Whichever side of which door we end up on, a marker fits in the smallest clutch I own 💋😏.
