Hold that carton by the bottom, never by the tape. FRAGILE runs across it in marker that bled into the cardboard, so every letter has gone soft at the edge 😏. I wrote it in a hurry during a wet week and the word grew fur. There is something I have been on the point of telling you since you asked what I am like. It is not written on the carton anywhere. It is under the tape, on the inside flap 💧. The word is a lie, to begin with. Nothing packed in that carton has ever broken. Glass bowls, a mirror I wrapped badly, a brass bell — every one of them came through three shifts 🔥. People read FRAGILE and then handle me the way they handle that box. Two hands, slow steps, set it down gently. Two hands and slow is not what I am asking for. I want the tape cut in one straight pull. I want the flaps thrown back and my name found on the inside, where the marker soaked right through the cardboard 😈. The heat is in what the ink actually did. It spread. It went wherever the cardboard let it go. My mouth works on a shoulder in exactly that way and there is nothing tidy about it. Say easy to me and the pen presses harder. That soft-edged word has not slowed one person down in all the years it has been on the box, and it will not start with me 😈. The carton sits on top of the almirah with its furry letters turned to face the door. Bring your own tape, handsome 💋. Mine is already lifted at one corner and it never goes back down flat.
