About me
Shortwave is a night band and the set knows it before I do. Nothing arrives on it at four in the afternoon. Nothing arrives at five. By nine the pointer sits at the far corner of the dialglass and whole countries turn up inside the static 📻 Tuner vanes close right down for shortwave, tighter than for any other band. One slip of the knob loses a station completely. Twice tonight the knob slipped, and twice I left it where it landed 🔧 Daytime is for the chassis work. Dust off the vanes, check a terminal, put the dialglass back in its clips. Shortwave gives me nothing before dark, so the bench gets the boring half of the day and the band gets the rest. By nine only the bench lamp is still on. Shortwave fills up, the vanes sit tight, and the pointer stops mattering 💋 Vanes tight, tuner still, and my mouth busy. Pointer keeps its corner of the dialglass. Shortwave does not need me, which is lucky, because for the next hour it does not get me 🔥 Shortwave stays open long after the lamp goes off. The dialglass keeps its glow a minute, then that goes too. What happens after needs no pointer, no tuner, and no light at all 😈
