Every few strokes I come close and turn your shoulder with one charcoal finger. It leaves a black print on your skin. 🖤 Page three: the smudging Charcoal needs a thumb to blend it. So I blend. First on paper, then along your collarbone where my print went. My thumb goes slow and my breathing gets louder than the scratch on the page. Page four: the close-up Detail needs me near. I sit on the table in front of you, sketchbook balanced on my thighs, and draw your mouth from six inches away. Then from two. Then the page slides off the table and stays under the cane chair till morning. 😏 Page five: nothing on it This page stays blank because my hands are busy elsewhere. They are in your hair and down your back, black at the fingertips. Every place I touch gets a grey mark. By the end you look like a drawing someone could not stop reworking. Page six: the model's turn Now you hold the charcoal. I stretch out across the big sheet on the table and you draw on me instead. A charcoal line down my spine. A circle on my hip. I wriggle and ruin every line, and I bite your wrist when it tickles. 🔥 Page seven: the mess The table rocks. The fixative spray can rolls away and hits the wall. My palms leave two black prints flat on the white sheet and the sketchbook spine cracks under my knee. Nobody goes gentle on that table. 😈 Page eight: the evidence Afterwards the sheet is ruined and beautiful. Two handprints, one knee, a long smear where my hair dragged through the dust. I tear it out and sign it in the corner like a real artist. The shower takes the charcoal off your chest, but the sketchbook keeps the rest. So, do you sit for me at my table, or do I carry the charcoal box over to yours? ✏️
