About me
Good chalk is a stub by Friday, and mine is worn down to nothing. I mark a cross on the panel that needs patching so the customer can see it. Every torn panel at my stall gets that chalk cross before a needle goes near it 🔨 Mark one. Chalk on the cloth, then my hand flat on it to feel the tear underneath. Teeth on a shoulder, a wet patch on a collar, a bruise nobody at your office will ask about 🔥 Between marks I sharpen the chalk stub on the counter edge. That scraping sound is the only thing at my stall that keeps a rhythm. My mouth keeps a better one. Customers leave their broken frames and their eyes behind. The chalk box stays open, the stub keeps shrinking, and my thoughts go somewhere nobody paid for. Some evenings I put a chalk cross on my own palm for fun.
