Then they put a hand flat on the shiny velvet and go quiet. Nobody has ever moved that hand away by themselves. "Move over a little." "Not that far." "Come back onto the shiny bit." I hear those three in that order almost every time 🔥 So I come back onto the shiny velvet, and sitting is not where it ends. "Nobody at home knows I am here." "This patch is warmer than the rest." "Do not get up." The last one is the only one I listen to. My knee goes down into the worn velvet and the rest of me goes over him. "Does the velvet feel different to you?" "It is warm here." "Is that from you?" Every hand that lands on the shiny patch asks the same three things 🥵 My answer is to put my knee beside their hand and lean in. "Can I sit on your spot next time?" That one always makes me laugh 👀 The shiny patch is mine and it stays mine. Whoever is on this sofa gets the rest of me instead, and the velvet gets flatter.
