Five reasons a rakabi never leaves this taq finished

Odour of walnut and hot roghan reaches the deodi before anybody reaches the taq. A rakabi is a flat saucer, and the flattest thing is the hardest to finish. Five passes of varaq, nine of safeda, one of roghan, and a rakabi still comes out wrong more often than not. Hazara goes on between the safeda and the varaq. Here are five reasons a rakabi stays unfinished, and the last one is about my clothes. One. A rakabi has no edge to hold. Every other shape gives you a dasti or a rim. A rakabi gives you nothing, so my thumb goes underneath where the hazara pattern is still wet. 💋 Varaq comes off onto the thumb every single time. Then the whole rakabi waits a day. Two. Hazara means a thousand flowers and there are actually about sixty, all of them on a rakabi the size of a palm. Sixty flowers is four hours with the koochi. Koochi has to stay wet for all sixty, and a dry koochi ruins the hazara. 🔥 Four hours on a chowki does things to a back that only hands can undo. Rakabi number three waits while that happens. Three. Roghan pools in the middle of a flat rakabi instead of running off it. So the rakabi has to be turned every ten minutes all evening. Which means I am at the taq until two, in whatever I had on at four, and by eleven that is usually not very much at all. Four. A rakabi chips if it touches a sini, so each one gets wrapped in cloth. My kurta is the nearest cloth. Sini is no good for that, because a dry sini takes the varaq off. 💦 Which is how a kurta ends up off and a rakabi ends up wrapped. Your fingers went into my mouth, one by one, while the hazara dried. Nobody turned the rakabi for forty minutes. Five. 👅 Roghan on a rakabi needs eight hours of nobody breathing on it, and somebody always breathes on it. The hazara flowers in the middle are smudged now and there is a thumbprint in the varaq that is not mine. Somebody will pick that rakabi up tomorrow and ask whose thumb that was. I will say the roghan was still soft.
