Warping is what happens to a kunji nobody has looked at. One end lifts and the other sits low. Three things cause it, and all three are fixable on a devdar bench. A bent key still plays, badly, which is how it survives for years. 🔧 1️⃣ Damp. It begins where a case has taken water once. Moisture swells a kunji and it dries crooked. Gutka underneath never sits flat again. I shave the gutka, not the key, because a shaved kunji warps twice as fast. 🎵 2️⃣ Weight. A harmonium carried by its dhaunkni instead of its base puts every kunji under a pull it was never built for. Within a season the warping follows. Swarpatta is fine; the kunji is the part that gives. 3️⃣ Sun. Quickest kind, and the ugliest. Sun bends nine kunji inside a single month. Usual cause is devdar left on a windowsill. Chheeni and a strip of devdar fix it, and the swarpatti never knew. 🔧 Nine keys straightened and my hands are still restless. Both hands leave the chheeni for your shirt. Warping went out of that kunji today and nothing went out of me. One straight kunji, and a very crooked evening. 💋🔥
