Sacks of moongfali sit by the door, waiting for the morning. 💋 Thonge go on the shelf, dahana side up, always. Over the lapsi tin goes a wet cloth. By ten my fingers are stiff and the tin is scraped out. Dahana work is the slow part and it leaves my shoulders aching. All over the floor there are offcuts. First batch thonge have already gone hard. Then you knock and the dahana of the last thonga stays open all night. 🔥 Sticky fingers go to your belt. Thonge get pushed off the bench. 😈 I take your fingers into my mouth, one after another, and the newsprint under my knees crackles. 💦 By midnight those thonge are on the floor with their dahana crushed flat. Lapsi has dried on my chin and on your shirt. 🙈 Moongfali sacks have not been touched. Torn newsprint lies in a ring around us. Dahana work decides the morning, not the night — the thonge stand in whatever room they end up drying in, and so do I. 🌙 Lapsi dries the same on any floor. Either way a thonga holds its quarter kilo. 💋
