Sanjaf ki surkh newar on a twenty-year serh looks wrong for about an hour. Then the bunat settles and the two colours stop arguing with each other. A manji strung ihan always looks like that on its first day 👀. Most people will tell you a manji should be strung in one afternoon. Those manji go slack by the third week, baiso, every single time. Sanjaf done slow, darling, stays surkh longer and holds the serh square. Other hands let the newar overlap at the baahi so the sanjaf looks neat. Mine goes under, which leaves a step you can feel through the bunat. Fingers find that step before anybody's eyes find the colour. Plenty of women would cover surkh newar with a chadar and forget it. Sanjaf deserves better, so this manji stays bare till somebody lies on it 😈. The colour against dark wood does something to me, teb and now. Some hands string a manji with gloves on, to stay clean. My fingers go black from old baan and surkh dye together, every week. Sanjaf dye comes off on my kurti and stays two days 🥵. Sanjaf, surkh newar, dark serh — jeeko dekhna ho, aa jaao. The manji goes out to the sehan at dusk and the colour changes again 🌙. Nobody who has watched sanjaf go on wants to leave before the bunat closes.
