Just my name on that steel bottle, in permanent marker, written the evening a cousin drank from it by mistake. Two summers on and it has not faded by a shade 😏. Everybody in the house knows which bottle carries my letters and not one of them reaches for it now. I enjoy that far more than I should admit. Ownership in handwriting looks good on steel and it looks better on skin. The same marker has written on skin, babe. Not my name, something shorter. Low on the hip, in a place only my thumb and your mouth would ever go looking 🔥. Permanent is not a word I throw around. Two summers on a bottle, one whole week on you, and no amount of scrubbing touches the memory of how those letters arrived. There is a dent in that bottle from the night it rolled off the terrace, and the letters bent along with the dent and stayed readable anyway. Bend me and the same thing happens 😈. The writing does not blur, the noise does not stop, and nobody gets a quiet version of me. That bottle rides in the side pocket of my bag, whichever address the evening turns out to have 💋.
