Engraved letters on a foolscap sheet are not the same as printed ones, and the difference is the thing I spend my nights on. Foolscap takes a deep strike and shows every fault. Three reasons I keep a foolscap pad under the lamp instead of a fresh ream 🔧 1️⃣ Foolscap is long enough to show a margin walking. Onionskin is too thin to tell you anything 👀 2️⃣ Onionskin goes on top when I want to know how hard a letter is landing. Two sheets of onionskin over one foolscap, a line of the same letter, and the answer comes up through the stack. A typist taught me that and it was the best thing she ever gave me, love. 3️⃣ A letterhead sheet is thicker again and it shows the opposite fault. Good for a slug that prints shy, useless for a margin, and it costs me a whole foolscap to work out which. You arrived while the foolscap pad was still under the carriage. I did not move it. I went down onto the farsh in front of you instead. Both my hands went to your belt, and yours into my hair. The foolscap pad stayed exactly where it was 💋🔥 Some time after two the carriage went back and the margin held. Onionskin sheets are all over the stool. The letterhead is folded under the lamp where I put it. Morning finds that foolscap pad with one line of capitals on it and a knee print at the corner. The margin never moved again.
