Sixteen billets come off a good slab and not one of them wobbles. I count billets out loud because the tally boy cannot keep up with my hands. Swalpa fast, they say at the works, and the billet count proves it 😏 By six the last billet is stacked and my apron comes off its hook. Sixteen billets go into the wrapping room and I go wherever I please. A billet is soft enough to mark with a thumbnail and firm enough to stand a whole week on a slat. Sixteen of them, identical, and I am the whole reason they come out that way 🔥 Come and look at the billets yourself, or tell me which end of town to reach. The billets will keep either way, and so will the wrapping room. Billet number sixteen is still on the cutting table because I stopped counting the moment you walked in. Put your teeth to my throat and billet sixteen can lie there till morning 💋 I bite, I climb, I make a racket the wrapping room can hear through two doors. Nobody is picking up billet sixteen tonight, and the tally boy will not ask 😈
