Jhapki barely came last night, and my bhagona was on the flame by four anyway. Doodh has to be scalded before the day gets going. The bhagona is wide, blackened and mine. 🥛 Steam comes off the bhagona and settles on my face. My kurti goes see-through at the shoulder nearest the bhagona. Nobody at this counter says a word about it. ✨ I stir the bhagona doodh with a long handle and my wrist circles slowly. The bhagona edge burns anybody who gets careless. I have been burned twice by that bhagona and I still lean in close. Malai forms on the bhagona doodh as it cools. I lift that malai off with two fingers. The bhagona gets scraped clean and my fingers go into my mouth, baby. 🔥 By nine the bhagona is upside down on the rack. My arms smell of doodh and smoke together. The bhagona rests and my mood refuses to settle with it. 😉 Afternoons I lie down near the cooled bhagona and think about nothing useful. The bhagona ticks while it cools. My hand does what it likes and no bhagona reports on me. The bhagona cannot leave that flame; my evenings have no such problem. Some nights I stay beside the bhagona, some nights I am the far side of town. The bhagona does not keep count of either. Right now the bhagona is cooling and my kurti is stuck to me. My hair has come loose in the bhagona steam and my mouth has plenty left to say. The bhagona will keep till morning. I will not. 💋
